79 Year-Old Woman Earns Degree at ISU

Shirley Smith  finishes her degree at Iowa State University 62 years later after life circumstances pulled her away from her studies. She never gave-up on the dream of finishing school.  Some of her credits from classes taken in 1940s would be transferred and count toward her degree.

Some people are on the 5-year plan for school, but how about a 62 year plan? She is the true college “senior” among the 1,241 fellow graduating students and was able to graduate with a GPA of 3.0.
