Question by wont_this_be_a_hoot: How can I make a dorm room “green”?
Looking for ideas to share with residential students at a rehab facility on how to be more enviornmentally friendly within their dorm rooms. We have recycling efforts in place. We’ve changed to CDL bulbs, we’re planning a session on rechargable batteries. – What else can we do? We want to set up a booth on Earth Day to help educate them. Please share your ideas!! Thanks!

Magnetic grids pretty elaborate however they will make the room powered load stone stuff- & a bulb that isn’t a bulb for the light *
Also clean the water a new way make a mechanism that recognizes pollutants using your computer
Maybe two devices?
Use real cotton for sure* because regular cotton is very toxic believe it or not to the environment.
Learn how to make a car for real using car parts that use No gasoline. & there’s always battery powered kits you can buy for a car 3 thousand pounds or less.
Say Hey if there’s will maybe there’s a way get creative with this one have some fun?! ! Skies the limit*

the cdl builds have Mercury in them. throwing them away is bad. the biggest green house gas bandit is the ocean. so get a big mop and dry it up. then its animal life. so just kill a few each week. its a crime to kill people but cats and dogs or ok. try not to fart. except for cans recycling is bad. it use more energy then its worth. if you just use a little sense going green is a good thing not for the environment. but for your wallet. it can save yo a few bucks. like Solar panels or wind mill. use compost to replace your lawn. plant a tree. simple things.

teach them conservation ideas, like turning off lights and electronics (and unplugging electronics when not in use for a while). teach them how much energy can be saved by not using a dryer for their clothes, instead getting a drying rack. for transportation, they can ride their bikes or take public transportation rather than driving. For food, you should stay away from cheap beef, it’s the worst for the environment and you. each pound of beef produced uses tons of water and grains to raise the cow. the whole process is quite unnatural and unhealthy. if you can, find organic beef that comes from grazing cows. or eating other meats is probably better for the environment and you.
that’s just about all you can do for a dorm room, you’re quite limited by living spaces.

I think living “environmentally friendly” is more of a lifestyle than a “just within their dorm rooms” sort of thing. If by environmentally friendly you mean “in harmony with the Earth’s ecological cycles”, then there are *many* changes to be made.

It starts with education: What type of “harmony” are humans in with the Earth right now? How are we treating our planet? How are we treating each other?

Maybe you could add the words: “Read, Read, Read” to your booth.
Or “think about the long term effects of your actions”
Or “take time each day to meditate and reflect”

Then you can talk about action. What sort of lifestyle am I living? Is it in harmony with my concern for the Earth?
You can suggest that residents think about how they get their basic needs met: food, water, shelter, friendship and ask if those things are in harmony with their values. Where does their food come from? Where did the water come from? How was the shelter made and how is it powered?

Food: community gardens? Organically grown? Locally harvested? More vegetables, less meat?
Water: How much do I use? Plastic water bottles or just bring a mug?
    Shelter: Clean energy?

Life: What am I doing to address these concerns?
