Question by Michael: I did pretty bad in high school and have a few questions about college admitance if anyone has the time.?
I failed my freshman year i believe 2 times due to family issues and having to move to about 6 different high schools. Something clicked in my head that i need to stop being stupid and grow up despite what was going on around me. I graduated in 2008 under the minimum program under the assumption that i was most likely going to join the military. It is still an option however my heart lies in in education and i really want to keep learning. I live up in college station right now with a friend. My parents have not really been in the picture for about 2 years. I have been studying for the SAT’s for about 2 weeks and the first test i took it gave me the scores of 1780-2080 ( I am using the “Official SAT Study guide” from college board. ). I really have no clue if that is good or not. I guess the main point of this topic is to seek some outside opinions on whether not this is actually realistic; me going to college.
Or maybe i should join the military? I don’t have any family to turn to and really ask what i should do so this is one of my best options.

I think you should keep going with college, you even feel this way so why let anything stop you? Your scores are actually really good (mine were much lower unfortunately) and I think you are wasting time by doubting yourself. I don’t think you should join the military off the bat, it is very difficult and a lifetime commitment. My best friend is a soldier and he told me horror stories about basic training. It is up to you to decide what feels right, and from what you are saying it seems like you belong in school. If money is an issue, schools do offer loads of financial help and scholarships/grants. Don’t give up, because you can do it. Everything is hard, but just put effort into everything you do and you will be fine. Good luck.
Why don’t you try both? I understand there are military programs that allow you to go to college — and they even pay for it.
Look into it. And if you’re willing to push yourself to graduate high school after so much trouble, and then study for the SATs, it sounds like you have the drive to get through college.
Try going to a counselor there at the community college or at A&M and see what they have to tell you. And try talking to someone involved with the military about being in it and going to college at the same time!
